Elder Rice Before leaving home
At the MTC
Elder Rice has been in the mission field since the first part of this month and he says time has "flown by". He is so busy that he says that he is not homesick. His Mission President and wife are really "cool" and they fed him a really good home cooked meal his first night there. I guess it really "never rains in Southern California" as the old song says, because when it rains they have to stay inside--in their apartment. Not sure why that is, but that is what they do. His apartment is not the best--they have to wash dishes in the bathroom sink and only have a warming plate to cook food on, but they are making the best of it. His companion is from Boise, Idaho, and his companion's former companion before Elder Rice went to Hillcrest High School too! They are in the apartment with another set of Elders, so 4 all together. He has some interesting stories of how he has gotten some investigators! Anyway, it is exciting to hear him talk (through emails and letters) and how much he has grown. His dad and I race to the mailbox to be the first one to get his letters and then try to decide who opens it because we get too excited! We got to talk to him for an hour and a half on Christmas day. That was really good to hear his voice and ask him questions. We wish we could have invited everyone over to talk to him, but we would have run out of time and he kept his list very short of who he wanted over to talk to so we would have time. It was great and now only one more Christmas to go! Well gotta go to a New Year's Eve party--Happy New Years everyone!!!!
